Congratulations on Your New Puppy!
Thank you for considering PCAC for your dog’s care. Puppies at PCAC will be examined at least 3 times in his first four months. Puppies, just like babies, grow and change quickly and we monitor them closely to ensure proper development. By examining your puppy every 3-4 weeks we can catch issues such as hip displaysia, teething abnormalities, and other signs of illness and disease immediately. Your puppy will receive a complete physical exam at each puppy visit.
The areas examined include your pet’s ears, eyes, gastrointestinal system and abdomen, heart and cardiovascular system, lungs/trachea and respiratory system, lymph nodes and thyroid gland, musculoskeletal system, nervous system, nose and throat, skin and hair coat, urogenital system, and mouth/teeth/and gums. At PCAC, our comprehensive wellness exams are one of the things that set us apart from other hospitals. Clients have said things such as “My pet has never been thoroughly examined like that before!” In addition to the doctor discussing the exam with you, every pet receives a complete report and a thorough explanation of the examination and the findings. Your puppy will also be vaccinated at his visits against life-threatening diseases.
Puppy Wellness Packages
Your puppy will need extra medical care to the first 6-8 months of life. So you can understand what your puppy will receive at each visit and to help you know what the cost will be, we offer 2 wellness packages that cover most of what your puppy will need in the first year.
Both of our puppy wellness packages include:
- 3 Wellness Exams* at approximately 8, 12, and 16 weeks
- *Illness visits are not substituted as it is important to receive all wellness care
- Vaccinations against the core dog diseases including
- Distempter, Adenoviris, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus
- Bordetella Bronchiseptica (kennel cough)
- Influenza H3N8/H3N2
- 2 Stool Analyses testing for parasitic and bacterial infections
- 2 Nail Trims
- 3 Months of heartworm and parasite prevention
Other options within the packages include:
- Puppy Class – training class for puppies 16 weeks to 5 months of age at our hospital. Included in our Top Dog Puppy Package, discounted in our Puppy Package.
- Microchip – permanent identification using a small identifying chip inserted under the skin. Discounted in both Top Dog and Puppy Package.
- Spay or Neuter – using a laser instead of a scalpel blade, reduces your dog’s chance of cancers, behavioral issues, and prevents unwanted pregnancies. Included in our Top Dog Puppy Package.
Early learning for pets – and their people! For puppies 2 1/2 – 5 months old.
With small class sizes of about 6 puppies, you will get hands-on attention at each class. All breeds are welcome so your puppy will get to interact with other puppies of all different sizes, decreasing the chance for fearful behaviors. The entire family is not only welcome, but encouraged to join including children 6 years or older. Only PAWsitive Approach training methods are used meaning no harsh consequences.
In the 4 weeks of class your puppy will learn socialization skills with other dogs and people (crucial for not becoming fearful or aggressive), manners and good behavior, and simple basic obedience. You will go home each week with homework to work on with your puppy and additional skills to learn at home. Your puppy will also learn to love coming to the veterinary office. With such happy memories of playing and learning, your puppy will learn that great experiences can happen at the vet!
You will learn how to become your puppy’s leader (not master), how to take care of your dog’s basic needs and health requirements, proven methods for crate training and potty training, and how to handle problem behaviors.
Classes are held once a week for 4 weeks and new classes start each month! Please call for availability.
To sign up for a class, please call 303-841-8833 for availability. Classes are $100 for the 4 week course and tuition is due at time of enrollment.
Dogs must be current with their age appropriate vaccinations including at least one Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccination no less than 1 week before class.
Your puppy will be learning positive conditioning so small, pea-sized treats are necessary. We recommend small pieces of chicken, cheese, Cheerios, or small training treats. Make sure your puppy is on a 6-foot nylon leash. Please do not use retractable leashes for class.
Please call 303-841-8833 to schedule a behavioral consult with one of our veterinarians if you are seeing concerning behaviors before your puppy has started training classes.
“Everyone is friendly and professional. I know my dogs are treated well whenever they receive care out of my sight. I am given sufficient time to ask questions and never feel rushed like I do with my own doctor. Thanks to everyone!”
