Dr. Justin Starnes
Associate VeterinarianDr. Justin Starnes grew up in Merritt Island, Florida, “Where dreams are launched!” It certainly was a launching place for his dream of becoming a veterinarian. Florida’s Space Coast is known for its rich biodiversity, which sparked his strong interest in the natural world. He volunteered at the nearby Brevard Zoo throughout his youth and has always had an interest in wildlife and exotic species.
He went on to study animal biology at the University of Florida where he also obtained his doctorate in veterinary medicine. Though Florida will always hold a special place in his heart, Dr. Starnes jumped at the opportunity to move to the great state of Colorado in 2015 and has been with us at Parker Center Animal Clinic ever since.
“My favorite part about veterinary medicine is that every day is different!” Dr. Starnes is passionate about surgery and dentistry. When he is not in procedures, he loves getting the opportunity to be a part of helping pet parents make educated decisions about their beloved family members’ health. “I see my role as a veterinarian as making sure I have communicated all options to our clients when it comes to their pets’ care. Though it is my job to guide and make best medical recommendations, it is important to me that our pet owners are involved in the decision-making process every step of the way.”
In addition to dogs and cats, he also enjoys seeing exotic animal species (small mammals, rodents, reptiles, amphibians). Though he loves birds as well, our clinic is not set up to care for avian species at this time.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Starnes enjoys spending time with his wife and pets (3 dogs and 2 cats). He also loves the great outdoors, where you can find him hiking, camping, rock climbing, paddle boarding, and skiing. When cozy at home, he enjoys cooking, crosswords, and tending to his indoor and outdoor plants.
